The problem with clever names for fitness products (or any product for that matter) is that it can make it difficult for consumers to actually find it on-line once they’ve spotted it on the latest infomercial.

Lets face it most of us watch them in the small hours of the morning usually after a few beers. We get excited about the product and make a mental note to check it out the following morning. Good in theory right?

You wake up with a nagging feeling in the back of your mind telling you that you have to do something and then vaguely remember the research you promised to do. You gulp down your first cup of coffee and make a beeline for the computer.

Google is your search engine of choice and you start to type in what you thought you heard last night. Hmm nothing found so you rack your brain and try all the variations you can think of was it Kettle Works, KettleWorkx, KettleWorx or maybe Kettleworks?

If your lucky you’ll hit on the magic permutation and Bam you’ve found it. Well I hope you’ve found it because in this instance The KettleWorx (I think that’s right!) is a fantastic workout using nothing but a Kettlebell. It has no moving parts (except you), nothing to break, easy to use and inexpensive to boot.

So next time you’re thinking of buying something from the TV remember to write down the product name, price and where you can buy it

Whilst out and about its amazing some of the things you see. Men and women of all different ages running like the devil was after them. Now I applaud their desire to get fit but in many cases the most likely outcome is injury.

Many of these people are middle aged and a good bit overweight some even obese. It makes me shudder to think of the damage the regular pounding on an unyielding surface is going to do to their joints. But even worse than that their lack of any type of stability including poor, pelvic, knee and ankle could easily cause them to injure themselves.

They could stumble and not have the strength or stability to recover causing them to fall.

I’m not saying that running is bad it’s just that running in poor physical shape is a recipe for injury.

Before anyone attempts to start jogging they should get professional advice. I’d recommend employing a personal trainer to assess your current fitness levels and design a fitness regime appropriate to you.

Most people need to increase their strength and fitness levels before they attempt any running at all. If you haven’t got the money to employ a personal trainer then at least consider some of the low impact options such as a treadmill, cross trainer or maybe even a KettleWorx Workout.

We haven’t even discussed some of the other problems you may get from excessive running such as shin splints but we’ll leave that for another article.

Tis the season to feel stuffed like the proverbial Christmas turkey. We have all eaten so much our waistlines are bulging more than usual and all or clothes appear to have shrunk. As we hunker down to let our bloated stomachs rest we are bombarded by TV infomercials claiming that we can lose the extra flab by working out for 2 minutes a day on the latest exercise gadget that they have developed.

I still smile when I see them – they make it sound ohhh so easy. Sorry to rain on your parade but I’m afraid losing flab isn’t that easy, simple yes, easy no.

One of the simple tests I like to use when deciding if a piece of exercise equipment is going to help or hinder your weight loss efforts is does it look easy to do? In other words do the well made up models with washboard abs look as though they are working hard or even better maybe sweating just a little bit?

If they aren’t and the product claims sound to good to be true then guess what they probably are to good to be true and the equipment is unlikely to do you much good.

If you look at the higher rated exercise products on this site like The Firm Wave, The T-Bow and The Kettleworx and then if you check people out working with the equipment you’ll notice it looks like they’re really working hard. That’s because it’s true they’re really working hard. Now if young fit models and fitness instructors are finding it challenging there’s a good chance you will be to.

So, don’t be fooled this time, get exercise equipment that makes you work hard not equipment that lightens your wallet but not you

Well it’s that time of year again. Up and down the country people have been making new years resolutions that involve losing weight. As their waistlines have expanded so has their resolve to do something about it.

One of the first things that springs to mind is a Gym membership and it’s a well documented fact that the number of new people joining a gym surges in January. Sadly the numbers also fall off very rapidly by March / April of the same year. So what’s to be done? Why not make it easier to exercise?

After all trialling to the gym is usually the reason most people give for losing interest with a cry of “I’m just to busy, I tried but I couldn’t fine the time” Humbug I say why not use the gym membership money and buy at home workout equipment instead? No excuses now!

Why not consider the following:

Get a home gym (expensive)

Buy some dumb bells and learn how to use them

Take a look at the Wii Fit (not my favoured option but if it gets you exercising so what)

Invest in some Aerobic Fitness DVD’s that will inspire you exercise

Join a Yoga or Pilates class

If you really want to get in the best shape of your life my recommendation is get The Firm Wave and the Kettleworx. Both simple, easy to use exercise programs that combine Aerobic and Strength training in one fast simple (not easy) exercise program that I guarantee if you were to do regularly will give you the fat loss results you’re looking for. The snag? These are not exercise gimmicks that claim to do all the work for you. You’ll have to work hard and I’m sorry to say sweat

I think anyone who is obese would love this to be true because after all it’s the perfect excuse for being overweight and not doing anything about it.

A researcher in the USA is claiming that this may in fact be true. According to Nikhil Dhurandhar there is some evidence that a so called fat virus may actually exist and he is asking for money to expand his research.

As you can imagine this has not proved a popular theory with mainstream thinking at odds with his idea. In fact with so many other factors at work it would be highly unlikely that this could be true but I’m sure many will wish it was.

Other factors include:

Your age

Your activity level (linked to age)

Medications you’re taking (steroids,antidepressants etc)

You’ve quit smoking

What you eat

The amount of exercise you get

Your gender

Hormonal influences

The list goes on and on. From my perspective sensible eating and an effective exercise program done regularly is the best antidote to packing on the extra pounds but as we all know it’s a simple solution but not one that people want to accept. Much easier to buy the latest useless piece of at home exercise equipment and then hang your laundry on it or dream of a vaccine for the fat virus!

Not all home exercise equipment is rubbish why not take a look at The Malibu Pilates Chair or the Kettleworx Workout and lose the fat by working out?
