The T-Bow claims to offer Cardio, Power, Strength Training, Balance, Core Stability and Stretching all in one package. Similar in shape to The Firm Wave but larger, sturdier (takes up to 660 lbs) and better designed, the T-Bow offers a complete home or studio workout.

There are no bells or whistles with the advertising, and no overexcited video presentation, just a visual run-through of everything that can be done with it.

And very impressive it is too. Very calm, very precise, very Swiss. And they make the best chocolate in the world as well

Developed by a Swiss physiotherapist, the T-Bow combines all the elements of fitness in a workout that’s just about perfect for anyone from a couch potato to an international athlete.

The T-Bow complete set costs $199 and you get the T-Bow, a workout DVD that’s presented in a very workmanlike fashion, and an exercise band and wallchart. The basic T-Bow on its own costs $139.

Pros:

Much higher quality than the Firm Wave as far as manufacture goes, and will take much more weight — this thing will last for ever and comes with a five-year guarantee. The workout is effective and easy to follow, even if you’ve got two left feet, and will work every muscle you never knew you had! Can be used either side up and is dead easy to store and carry, making it absolutely perfect for the home user.

Cons:

The price. At $199 it costs twice as much as the Firm Wave. And the DVD, although perfectly acceptable, is just one 70 minute workout, which is then broken down into shorter workouts, so although they advertise over three hours of exercises, it’s really just the same workout revamped – which is a bit of a disappointment. And the workout is presented in both English and German, which is a bit disconcerting!

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Perfection would be the T-Bow board combined with the Firm Wave DVDs! But it’s not a perfect world and if I had to choose, I’d spend the extra money and get the T-Bow – the difference in quality of manufacture is staggering. But it has to be said that they’ll both do a good job of improving your fitness and toning you from top to toe.

Hulahoop’s seem like quite an innocuous and fun type of exercise. Most of us have had a hula hoop when we were child. It was great fun trying to keep the hoop at waist level and preventing it from hitting the floor. Competitions with friends were great fun and great source of exercise.

But what happens when a middle-aged out of condition probably a good bit overweight person who hasn’t done any exercise in years tries to hulahoop?

I’ve seen a rash of interesting injuries from my clients caused by overenthusiastic hulahooping! The movements required to keep the hulahoop spinning requires good core and postural stability because while we’re rotating a lot of stress is placed on these muscles. Particularly a muscle called QL. This muscle enables us to laterally flex our spines and it’s a major player in keeping the spine stabilised and upright.

You can imagine what will happen when this out of condition persons QL is suddenly required to stabilise an overweight and unconditioned person once they start vigorously swinging their hips from side to side. I can tell you what will happen and that’s the muscle put under far too much strain can pull. This type of injury can be painful and difficult to treat and therefore heal.

Having fun whilst exercising is a great thing, in fact any sort of exercise can only benefit you but when exercising always bear in mind your current fitness level. If we’re not used to regular exercise we need to build up to something like hoola hooping slowly

Remember if we injure ourselves we can’t exercise in fact we can’t even do our normal daily activities and this is going to hamper any weight loss goals we’ve set.

Let’s face it with the best will in the world working out can be boring. Not only boring but hard work. Some people actually enjoy working out but if I’m honest I don’t.

I work out to keep fit and prevent myself from putting on weight. I enjoy my workouts best when they’re done and I’m in a shower feeling virtuous that another workout is behind me.

So although I believe that you can work out at home with no equipment using just your body weight I do purchase functional and inexpensive pieces of equipment that not only make my workouts more effective but more importantly prevent me from getting bored.

I like to vary my workouts and the equipment used during my workouts. I then get the best of both worlds. I prevent the dreaded plateau and keep my workouts interesting.

The type of exercise equipment I like best is functional very easy to use and most important inexpensive. Complicated exercise gadgets annoy me because you spend so much time setting them up getting the right settings that your workouts take a lot longer.

I like to keep my workouts as short as possible I prefer high-intensity training or just get it done training. To that end my favourite pieces of exercise equipment would have to be the Iron Gym and The Kettleworx.. They meet all my requirements using this exercise equipment I can get myself a complete workout. Strength, cardio, stretching and power with equipment costing less than $100.

Remember it’s not the cost of the equipment that matters it is that you actually use it on a regular basis. So forget complicated and expensive toys you might see on the television and stick to the equipment that will actually get the job done efficiently and in as short a time as possible.
